Some of the water springs remain hidden by overgrown shrubs but many of them have been saved from oblivion by local residents. The springs have been restored with the help of the county of Semič. One such example is the Kalski studenec well in the north-east of Semič county.

According to older people in the local communities, this water cave was used by the villagers of Kal and Štrekljevec for drinking, washing laundry and watering livestock for centuries. The spring was formerly protected by a covering.

Following the installation of a public water system for the villages the Kalski studenec well lost its former importance. This renovated well bears witness to the extraordinary importance of water and evokes the memories of bygone days.
